Lincolnshire Wolds and York Minster
  • we had a beautiful drive through the Lincolnshire Wolds, including a stop for tea and browsing at an out-of-the-way Christian bookshop. While Yvonne shopped, I was given a tour of the off-grid wind turbine-based electrical system :)
  • York Minster (not only a cathedral, but an early teaching church) was massive and lofty; again, one wonders how millions of pounds for maintenance of aging monuments connects to mission ('fishers of people'). Does the church come across as historical, but irrelevant?
  • felt pleased I could make a contribution to the Minster's ongoing development - fixed the toilet in the handicapped washroom so it would give a proper flush!
  • The first pub we tried in Grantham for supper didn't serve food, but another provided an ample 'ploughman's lunch' including the famous Melton Mowbray pork pie I'd wanted to sample yesterday
  • tomorrow we pack up and move for the last time between motels - off to London. It's been a pleasant respite staying in the same place for 6 nights straight.

A great day indeed! A sight of York Minster and a taste of Melton Mowbray pie! Could a day get any better?

I gather it could; a most helpful repair of the local plumbing -while maybe not the most relevant act of penitence - will give joy to many other visitors to the Minster. Well done, Ernest! It must be a most humbling expereince to realise that one is entitled to claim that one has had a hand in the building and maintainance of such an historic and important building!

I think I am right, when I say that Jesus did much of his great work close to water. Ernest, you are in (not only 'good' but,) the 'greatest' of company!

I say, again, 'Well Done' Ernest!

Thanks Dad for your updates and pictures! I said to Meredith yesterday that I felt like "Dad's daughter" when I tried to fiddle around with a doorknob to keep it from wobbling unnecessarily ( ; I hope you had better success in your venture than I did!

I have to agree with you about Granddad's comment - and chuckle along with you about Jesus working close to the water too! =) that's great. He was quite the Mr. Fix-It in every way! Thanks for bringing it up, Granddad.

Dad, thanks again for your lovely photo albums & for keeping in touch so well. That means a lot to us, and we're looking forward to seeing you & Mum here again soon! Love ya :)
